GV cancels winter Campus Life Night
Campus Life Night, scheduled for Jan. 12, was canceled by Grand Valley State University due to inclement weather.
The event, which happens each semester to promote hundreds of student organizations, was set to take place in the Kirkhof Center. Typically, the event is an opportunity for students to mingle with one another and learn more about campus organizations they may be interested in joining.
The event was canceled in compliance with the university’s move to remote status after 12 p.m. on Jan. 12 in preparation for the incoming snowstorm. Through an email and Instagram post, the Office of Student Life announced the event was canceled and would not be rescheduled.
MI school systems move to electric buses
More educational facilities within the state of Michigan are making a move to use electronic school buses, over the traditional, diesel-guzzling vehicles. According to MLive, Lansing and Pontiac school systems have received a large grant dedicated to improving the schools’ transportation system and making the districts’ school buses more eco-friendly.
Other Michigan cities, such as Flint, Redford and Ludington have received smaller grants to support a similar mission. The article reported that 70 electric school buses are expected to be in rotation next school year.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has weighed in on eco-friendly transportation, recommending the switch from diesel to electric, which would put schools’ budgets “back into the classroom to buy new textbooks, support educators and reduce class sizes.”
