Campus Activities Board hosts slam poet

On Tuesday, Sept. 22, the Grand Valley community will be able to tune in for a virtual live performance from Carlos Andrés Gómez. His work, such as the poems “What Latino looks like” and “Where are you really from,” has landed him a number of awards, such as Atlanta Review International Poetry Prize, International Book Award for Poetry, and the Foreword INDIES Gold Medal.

Extending from the social commentary focus of Gómez’s performances, he also co-leads the organization Senior Orientation, which works to counteract bullying and encourage healthier, inclusive forms of masculinity.

Those interested in watching Gómez perform can RSVP for the event on LakerLink, which can be found at gvsu.campuslabs.com/engage. The event, which will last from 7 to 7:45 p.m., will be hosted live over Zoom.

If you think you would benefit from the opportunity to discuss your concerns, thoughts and feelings surrounding being placed into isolation, contact the University Counseling Center at (616) 331-3266 or in order to join an outreach group. For more information on the group counseling offered at GVSU, visit gvsu.edu/counsel.
