Celebrate poetry night at GVSU

On Monday, March 14, award-winning poet Danez Smith will be joining two local poets, Ericka Thompson and Marcel Price, to celebrate poetry night at Grand Valley State University. Thompson is the current Grand Rapids Poet Laureate and Price was the former laureate. This event is virtual and will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Registration is available at gvsu.edu/gvarts. GVSU’s poetry night has been a two-decade-long tradition. GVSU’s College of Liberal Arts & Sciences is hosting the event, which promises to be dynamic, challenging and moving.

Women’s Way mural tour

In honor of Women’s History Month, Downtown Grand Rapids Inc is hosting a mural tour to learn about the success of many historical women figures on March 15. The tour is free and goes from 6 to 7:30 pm. The tour is led by Caroline Cook of Grand Rapids Running Tours and starts at the Grand Rapids Art Museum. The goal of this tour is to bring awareness to historical local women as well as bringing creativity to often unlooked areas of Grand Rapids with the murals.

Movie Night at GVSU

On March 18 there will be two separate opportunities for students to watch movies on campus. The first screening is being hosted by Fostering Laker Success which is apart of the Center for Women and Gender Equity. This movie will start at 4:00 and run until 6 p.m. The movie that will be screened hasn’t been announced yet but it’s being picked by the members of FLS via survey. This will take place in Kirkhof 1201 and is opening to members of FLS or those that meet the criteria. FLS is a group for students who have experienced foster care or other out-of-home placement. For more information on the group, contact the Center for Women and Gender Equity.

That same evening, the Campus Activities Board will be screening “Dune.” The movie will be starting at 7 p.m. and running until 9:45 p.m. This film will be screened on the big screen theatre in Kirkhof. They will be screening the 2021 version of the movie which features Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac and more.
