Capture the flag with Campus Ministry
This Friday, Sept. 16 Campus Ministry is hosting a campus wide capture the flag event on the Grand Valley State University Allendale campus.
The event does coincide with Family Weekend and students are welcome to participate with their siblings or parents.
Those interested in playing can join the game whenever they choose but it will run from 5 to 7 p.m. The event is free to join and will begin at the clocktower.
Celebrate Family Weekend
GVSU’s Family Weekend starts this Friday with a kickoff party from 6 to 8 p.m. with activities for the whole family, ranging from yard games to food trucks.
There will also be an appearance from the Laker Marching Band and more special guests. The band will play from 6:30 to 7 p.m. on the lawn outside of Kirkhof.
There are also events inside of Kirkhof for families to participate in, such as a dueling pianos show from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Grand River Room.
The following day events will start early with “Philly’s Phlipping Phlapjacks” where families will be served pancakes in Kirkhof Center starting at 8:30 a.m.
At 9:30 a.m. GVSU President Philomena Mantella will also be serving pancakes alongside the GVSU Senior Leadership Team. The breakfast will be free for all families to get them ready for a full day of activities.
Following breakfast is the Laker spirit 5k which will be a color run/walk, with a different route than in past years. The 5k will wind through campus. Registration is mandatory and can be completed online through the GVSU Recreation and Wellness Center. The run starts at 9 a.m. and lasts until noon.
There will be a student small business market on the Kindschi Lawn from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. where students will have the chance to sell items from their own shops. There will be a range of items from jewelry to handmade art available for purchase. All the purchases go directly to the students who are running the shops.
Before the football game begins there will be a Family Weekend tailgate inside the Fieldhouse Arena. This event is not free, tickets to attend are $17 per person. Tickets include entry to the fieldhouse as well as a tailgate meal. There will also be activities for those who attend. Tickets can be reserved online at gvsutickets.universitytickets.com.
