Plan ahead with the 2020 Study Abroad Fair
Grand Valley State University’s Padnos International Center suspended their study abroad programs for the fall 2020 and winter 2021 semesters, but are looking forward to accepting applications for spring/summer 2021 and beyond. They’re encouraging students to explore the opportunities available the same way they do every year — with their annual Study Abroad Fair.
Occurring virtually from Oct. 12-15, the week of events includes both live presentations and Q&A sessions, as well as “virtual fair booths” that can be browsed for information at anytime. Links to individual Zoom sessions as well as the full schedule of events can be found on the Padnos International Center’s website at www.gvsu.edu/studyabroad.
Celebrate Laker pride with GV Spirit Week
The Campus Activities Board is once again heralding in October with a week-long celebration of school spirit. Events start on Monday, Oct. 12 with a virtual GVSU trivia night and continue until Friday, Oct. 16, where it will be concluded with a Spirit Week pep rally on the Library Lawn.
Other planned events include DIY tie-dye, a cross-campus search for prizes, a giveaway of 500 potted succulents, and stress-relieving plate smashing. A full schedule of Spirit Week 2020 can be found on CAB’s website at www.gvsu.edu/cab.
Get a flu shot at GV
Though the seasonal flu may seem like an afterthought during this global COVID-19 pandemic, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is urging Americans to take it more seriously than ever in these unique circumstances. Communities need to vaccinate themselves again the flu to reduce the burden on health care systems and save medical resources for COVID-19 patients.
The GVSU Family Health Center is helping to meet this need by providing a number of opportunities for members of the Grand Valley State University community to get their flu shots.
This week, flu shots will be available from 1-3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 12 at Cook-DeVos Health Sciences, as well as from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15 at the Kirkhof Center. A full schedule of October dates is available on their website at www.gvsu.edu/fhc, where those interested can also find the insurance and flu forms necessary to get the vaccine.
