Grand Valley State University Police responded to a fight behind Kistler Living Center last week, where a male victim was reportedly stabbed.
GVPD responded to the call at 12:15 a.m Aug. 31. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the non-student victim, who had obtained minor injuries. A second victim reported being stabbed in the same altercation, but didn’t exhibit any injuries that aligned with a stabbing. The perpetrator was seen fleeing the scene and has yet to be located.
A Timely Warning detailing the incident was sent to students’ emails shortly after 3 a.m. A photo and description of the suspect were included in the email.
“Grand Valley Police Department, in coordination with local law enforcement partners, is taking this incident seriously and conducting an ongoing investigation to identify the suspect and take any other actions that we think would help secure the campus,” said GVPD Chief Daniel Lindstrom.
Lindstrom added that safety is the University’s top priority and that GVPD is actively monitoring the situation and unrelated incidents that have occurred this past week.
“We will continue to advise the community of any known threats in an effort for everyone in the University community to take preventative actions to protect themselves,” said Lindstrom.
Lindstrom instructs students to contact GVPD if an unsafe situation arises. He further suggests that students remain aware of their surroundings and download the Laker Guardian App to receive safety alerts.
This is a developing story, and will continue to be monitored by the Lanthorn.
