GVSU men’s golf places fourth at UW-Parkside Spring Invitational

The Grand Valley State men’s golf team earned a fourth-place finish at the UW-Parkside Spring Invitational down in Columbus, Indiana, after carding rounds of 286 and 293 for a two-day total of 579 (+3). The event started Sunday, April 1, and ended Monday, April 2. 

McKendree took the title after shooting a 574 (-2), while Bellarmine (577, +1) and Tiffin (578, +2) finished just ahead of the Lakers. 

Alex Scott, Mitchell White and Bryce Messner all tied for 16th place overall with carded scores of 145, +1. Domenic Mancinelli was just behind his teammates with a 146 (+2) to finish tied for 25th, while Eric Nunn tallied a 147 (+3) to finish tied for 27th to round out the Lakers’ team score. Andrew Stevens traveled with the team playing as an individual and finished tied for 53rd with a +8, 152, in the two-day invite.

The Lakers will have just a few days off as they are scheduled to head down to Noblesville, Indiana, for the Indianapolis Spring Invitational on Sunday, April 8, through Tuesday, April 10, in their last tournament before the GLIAC Championships.

GVSU women’s golf places fifth at West Texas A&M Spring Invitational

The Grand Valley State women’s golf team earned a fifth-place finish at the West Texas A&M Spring Invitational after carding rounds of 313 and 300 to finish with a +37, 613, at the two-day event. 

St. Mary’s University and host school West Texas A&M (600, +24) tied for first place in the event and were followed by Lynn (606, +30); CSU-San Marcos (606, +30); and GVSU to round out the top five schools in the 17-team field.

Katie Chipman and Mackenzie Blomberg both carded totals of 151 (+7) to tie for ninth place overall to lead the Laker squad. Olivia Reed shot a 158 (+14) after rounds of 76 and 82 to tie for 29th, while Samantha Moss finished tied for 35th with a +15, 159 (82, 77). Maria Sol Pose rounded out the Laker team score with a 165 (+21) to tie for 53rd place.

GVSU will be back on the course Monday, April 9, for NC4K Classic two-day tournament hosted by Ohio Dominican in Columbus, Ohio.

GVSU women’s club volleyball to compete in National Championship Tournament

From Tuesday, April 10, through Sunday, April 15, the Grand Valley State women’s club volleyball team will be in St. Louis, Missouri, to compete in the NCVF National Championship Tournament with 450 other teams from around the country. 

The club has attended the National Championships consecutively for over two decades.

The club consists of two teams of 26 students playing all together, including seven seniors graduating soon after Nationals. The National Championships have been the focus for the club since teams were selected in the beginning of September. Both teams have traveled around the Midwest over the past year in preparation for this tournament.

The A team has won our home tournament and the U of M Tournament. The B team just recently won the silver bracket at Ball State and won first place in Bronze at Purdue.
