Grand Valley State University President Thomas J. Haas signed a transfer agreement at Muskegon Community College on Monday, making the move from the community college to GVSU one that can more easily include an associate’s degree.

“We really value our relationship with Muskegon Community College … this is one more item to demonstrate how important we think this relationship is,” said Vice President for University Relations Matt McLogan. “It’s all about the students, the agreement was struck between the two institutions, but the entire value of this agreement goes to the students.”

The agreement, an extension of transfer agreements already in place between the institutions, will allow former MCC students complete their associate’s degree after transferring to GVSU.

Along with assisting in the completion of an associate’s degree, the agreement will also assist transfer students who forgo a degree and leave MCC having completed at least 30 credits.

“The value for a student who transfers short of receiving their associate’s degree is that if they wish to receive that credential, they can use credits earned at Grand Valley to qualify,” McLogan said.

McLogan said the plan, signed by Haas and MCC President Dale Nesbary at MCC’s Stevenson Center, will go into effect immediately.
