Guest musicians to perform at GV

GVL Staff

Grand Valley State University will be hosting Annette-Barbara Vogel and Daniel Sweaney, a violin and viola duet group as a part of GVSU’s Guest Artist Series.

This recital will be held at the Sherman Van Solkema Recital Hall on the Allendale Campus today at 8 p.m.

Vogel was taught her first violin lesson at the age of four. At age 11, she was one of the youngest students ever accepted into the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany. Since then, she has gone on to perform and teach in several countries and has made numerous trips to the United States to both perform and teach master classes. Vogel has been a faculty member at the University of Western Ontario in Canada since 2004.

Sweaney also started his musical career at age 11. His studies have carried him all across the United States and Europe. He has held faculty positions at numerous institutions, including Rice University, and currently works as a viola instructor at the University of Alabama.

Vogel and Sweaney have performed together before, both as a duet and as a part of larger groups.

Upcoming GAS recitals will include Thomas Zugger, a trombonist, and Gail Zugger, a clarinetist, on Oct. 10 and Andrea Ridilla, an obist, and Tatjana Ognanoska, a pianist, on Oct. 13.

All GAS performances are free and open to the public.
