It’s not too late for artists to register for the 2012 ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, but the window of opportunity will be closing soon. Registration closes on June 7, so artists interested in entering and creating pieces only have four days left to enter the competition.

ArtPrize is an annual international competition in Grand Rapids that began in 2009 where artists enter their works of art to be viewed by the community and chosen for a grand prize.

In 2011, almost 40 different countries participated in ArtPrize. The event lasts 19 days and includes artists and their art, curators, judges, speakers and a countless amount of people from all over the world.

The most important aspect of ArtPrize is the art being created and a focus on the importance of art and community, bringing over 200,000 people together each year. On the events website, it states that ArtPrize’s mission is to be “a catalyst for collisions and connections between artists and communities, for the sake of infusing vitality and courage into culture.”

This year’s ArtPrize will take place from Sept. 19 through Oct. 7. For more information on registration, volunteering, jobs, venues, sponsors and voters visithttp://www.artprize.org/ and click the “get-involved” tab.
