Women’s Center staff member chosen for national award

Theresa Rowland from the Grand Valley State University Women’s Center was chosen to receive the Emerging Leader Award from the National Women’s Studies Association. Rowland was chosen for her work as coordinator of the leadership program and the Violence Against Women Act grant at the center. She received the award at the NWSA Women’s Center Committee pre-conference awards ceremony on Nov. 6 in Cincinnati. As VAWA grant coordinator, Rowland organizes events and programs on campus to address sexual assault and violence in relationships. Women’s Center assistant director Brittany Dernberger and associate director Jo Ann Wassenaar nominated Rowland for the award.
