Women’s Center to host Clothesline Project

The Women’s Center will be hosting its annual Clothesline Project event to raise awareness of violence against women from noon to 5 p.m. today. Inspired by the AIDS quilt, the project is a collection of T-shirts designed by women who have survived violence or by someone who knows a woman who didn’t survive violence. The designs tell stories of the women with illustrations and messages and will give a voice to women who have been silenced by violence. An estimated 500 Clothesline Projects like this one occur nationally and internationally with an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 t-shirts on the clotheslines. Shirts will be displayed in the Kirkhof Center on the Allendale Campus and on the Holland Campus from today until Wednesday.
