Safety agreement for library construction project signed

Grand Valley State University’s Mary Idema Pew Library Learning and Information Commons project just got safer with the signing of a safety agreement by construction manager Pioneer Construction.

On June 10 in the Kirkhof Center, Pioneer Construction signed a safety agreement with the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulation Affairs and the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration to promote enhanced safety and zero injuries for workers on GVSU’s library construction project, scheduled for completion in fall of 2013.

The agreement calls for each worker on the site to complete a safety course and receive a certification of completion, and means a greater presence of safety inspectors at the construction site as well.

The Mary Idema Pew Library Learning and Information Commons will be built to the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Platinum specifications and will require as many as 300 workers on site each day with about 300,000 total man hours until the project is complete.
