Grand Valley State University will have its seventh Take Back the Night march at 7 p.m. today.

Take Back the Night is a national initiative to end sexual violence, especially against women, with more than 30 years of history. Amy Joa of housing and student Katy Voorhorst are both working to plan this year’s march, featuring a keynote speech from Angela Rose.

Rose’s program, called “Shattering the Silence of Sexual Violence,” has been heard all across the country and heralded by the Chicago Sun-Times. She has been featured on various national media outlets and in national magazines as well.

Rose uses her past to try and bring about change as she tells audiences about the night when she was abducted at knifepoint and assaulted by a sex offender at the age of 17.

Take Back the Night will begin at 7 p.m. today in the Grand River Room of the Kirkhof Center.
