Guest trombonist to perform at GVSU

Guest trombonist Brad Edwards, a professor of trombone at Arizona State University, will perform in a recital at Grand Valley State University. 

Martha Mundinger Edwards will join him on the horn. Several works will be performed, including “Blue Wolf” and “Tabloid.”

The recital will take place Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the Thomas J. and Marcia J. Haas Center for Performing Arts.

The event is free and open to the public.

Homerathon’s ‘Game of Heroes’ to be held Wednesday, Oct. 11

The Grand Valley State University classics department and the Mary Idema Pew Library Learning and Information Commons will host the sixth annual Homerathon event, ‘Game of Heroes,’ Wednesday, Oct. 11. 

This event is being hosted in conjunction with the Office of the Provost, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Brooks College of Interdisciplinary Studies, the Dean of Students Office and the Frederik Meijer Honors College.

For this event, there will be a non-stop performance of Homer’s “The Iliad” from noon to 2:30 p.m. on the Allendale and Pew campuses.

Fall Glow Zumba Party to take place in Fieldhouse

Grand Valley State University’s Campus Recreation will host its annual Fall Glow Zumba Party Wednesday, Oct. 11, on recreation courts four and give in the Fieldhouse.

The party is open to GVSU students free of charge with their student IDs. No registration is necessary for the event, but students are encouraged to wear bright colors or white so they can partake in the “glow” aspect.

‘Conversations of Color’: Discussing DACA

The next session of the Grand Valley State University Office of Multicultural Affairs’ “Conversations of Color” series is set to take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, in the Kirkhof Center, Room 1240.

The topics of these conversations vary weekly, with this week’s focus being the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) federal immigration policy. 

Students will be able to talk and discuss their thoughts and feelings about the subject, as well as initiate discussion topics for future weeks.
