Men’s tennis defeats Cornerstone, Davenport

The Grand Valley State University men’s tennis teams picked up a pair of wins Saturday, defeating Davenport University 7-2 and Cornerstone University 8-1. In doubles play, GVSU sophomore Francis Bertrand and junior Bryan Hodges picked up an 8-5 victory against Davenport in the No. 1 spot, then an 8-1 victory over Cornerstone. Bertrand and Hodges also picked up a pair of victories in singles competition. Bertrand defeated Vitaly Shumilov of Davenport 7-6 (5), 6-2, then Elijah Yi of Cornerstone 6-2, 6-0. Hodges defeated Davenport’s Zac Chambers, 6-3, 6-4, then Chris Reed of Cornerstone 6-0, 6-2. GVSU will compete in the Grand Rapids City Tournament at 3 p.m. on Friday and at noon on Saturday.
