Third sexual assault notification goes out to Laker community

At 4:57 p.m. on Dec. 3, the following message was sent out to the Grand Valley State University community:

“On December 3, 2014, it was reported to the Grand Valley Police Department that a sexual assault took place November 10, 2014, at 48 West Apartments, located at 10897 48th Avenue in Allendale. The suspect is unknown, but described as a white man, 6’2, with short black hair, a tattoo on his upper arm, and a scar on his chest. The suspect was wearing blue jeans and a T-shirt. While the suspect and victim/survivor did not know each other, they were attending the same gathering.

If you are a victim of sexual assault, seek assistance by calling police. Additional resources are available through the GVSU Women’s Center and the Victim Advocate Theresa Rowland at (616) 331-2748 or [email protected]. Consider visiting the nurse examiner program at the YWCA (616-776-RAPE). You can decide later whether or not to press charges, but it is critical that you receive medical attention and caring support as soon as possible.”

This marks the third sexual assault notification of the semester at GVSU.

The first reported sexual assault that involved a breaking and entering at Country Place Townhouses occurred on Sept. 7.

The second reported sexual assault occurred on the Allendale Campus on Oct. 5, but was not reported until Oct. 13.
