GV offers workshop for FAFSA

Students can receive free assistance for their 2012-13 FASFA forms from financial aid experts at the DeVos Center on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.
Eight Grand Valley State University financial aid experts will be at the event to help students seeking scholarships, grants and loans. The event is part of a statewide initiative, College Goal Sunday.
“This can be a helpful resource to anyone who needs it,” said Michelle Rhodes, GVSU director of financial aid.
Students should bring bank statements, completed tax or W-2 forms, proof of residency, a social security card and other personal documents.
About 20,000 GVSU students received grants, loans, scholarships and work-study opportunities during the 2010-11 school year, according to GVSU’s Office of Financial Aid.
Rhodes said the university awarded $247 million in financial aid during the 2010-11 year.
New and returning students from colleges and universities all over the state are allowed to attend the event.
“We want to give access to any student,” Rhodes said.
Other College Goal Sunday sites include the Loutit District Library in Grand Haven, Davenport University in Holland and Muskegon Community College in Muskegon.
Rhodes added that students can use a tool on the financial aid office’s website for help with FASFA forms if they cannot attend the event. Students can also visit the Financial Aid office for assistance.
