Human Resources Open House

The Grand Valley State University L. William Seidman Center is hosting an open house from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. today in the Charles W. Loosemore Forum on the Pew Campus.

Students of all interests and majors are invited to attend to learn more about careers in human resource management and to network with local employers. Attendees will also learn about the new major being offered at GVSU.

Participants should dress business casual and bring their resumes.

Discover Business Abroad

The Grand Valley State University International Student Organization presents their annual event from to 8 p.m. today in the Loosemore Auditorium of the DeVos Center on the Pew Campus. The event is LIB 100 approved, and refreshments will be provided.

Students will have the opportunity to hear speakers, participate in trivia and network with others. The Discover Business Abroad Conference raises awareness about the cultural challenges associated with business in other countries.

Turkey Study Abroad Session

The Grand Valley State University Padnos International Center is presenting an informational session for those interested in studying abroad in Turkey at 5:30 p.m. today in D1-129 Mackinac Hall.

The faculty-led program is open to students of any major who are interested in history and Middle East studies. The group will travel during the summer, and students will receive six GVSU credits for their time abroad.

University Bookstore Fashion Show and Fundraiser

The Grand Valley State University bookstore is hosting a fundraising event at 1 p.m. on Friday in the Kirkhof Center lounge. The event includes free food, music and prizes.

The event is part of the annual Battle of the Valleys fundraising competition. The fashion show will feature GVSU apparel available for purchase at the bookstore. The campus community is invited to show their Laker pride and donate to the Children’s Fund, this year’s Battle of the Valleys charity.

RAD Seminar

The Grand Valley State University Women’s Center is sponsoring a defense seminar from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday in Room 0072 of the Kirkhof Center. The event is only open to women.

Rape Aggression Defense is a defense program that involves techniques tailored specifically for women to use if they are attacked. Participants will learn prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, as well as hands-on training practice.

Writers Series to feature Angie Cruz

Award-winning author Angie Cruz will speak at Grand Valley State University on Monday, Nov. 17 from 7:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. in room 2215/2216 in the Kirkhof Center. 

Cruz is the author of two novels, “Soledad,” and “Let it Rain Coffee.” Her writings focus on her Latin American heritage, women’s issues and other relevant themes.
