Bringing back the silent disco

The silent disco is returning to GVSU’s campus on Sept. 10. The Campus Activities Board is hosting another disco as a part of their welcome back to campus events. A silent disco is basically the same as a regular dance party, however, everyone is wearing headphones instead of the music being played on speakers. There will be three different DJ’s performing throughout the event that students can shuffle inbetween. The DJ’s that will be there are DJ BWiz, DJ Composition, and DJ Kung. The disco will take place at the Clocktower Plaza from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. Students can RSVP for the event on LakerLink, however it isn’t necessary to do so in order to attend.

Learn about study abroad opportunities

Students who are interested in studying abroad can go to the first step meeting Sept. 8 from 5 to 6 p.m. in Lake Ontario Hall in room 130. These sessions are recurring every Wednesday and run until Oct. 27. These information sessions will cover all of the basics of studying abroad which includes how to find a program, funding, academic information and more. Those who are interested and can’t attend an event can contact the study abroad advising office for information.

Watch Cruella on campus

The Campus Activities Board is hosting a movie event Sept. 10. Students can drop in to watch Cruella at four separate viewing times. Showtimes are at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. This is the live-action version of the classic Disney animation. The live-action stars Emma Stone and Emma Thompson.

BYOB river clean up event

Grand Valley is participating in a campus to campus water clean-up event for the Grand River. Those who are looking to attend are asked to bring their own boats to get down the river. Whether that be a kayak, canoe or any other personal floating device. They also suggest bringing a device to collect trash, like a net or separate device for trash. Gloves, garbage bags and a support boat for offloading trash will be provided by Making Waves. There are two dates for cleanup, Sept. 11 at 8 a.m. and Sept. 13. Boats will be launched from Veterans Boat Launch. Those looking to attend are being asked to sign up online. For more information check out gvsu.edu/makingwaves.

Participate in outdoor yoga

The Campus Activities Board along with GVSU Recreation and Wellness group are hosting a joint outdoor yoga event for students on campus. This will take place on Sept. 10 from 6-7 p.m. in the Arboretum. Students are being encouraged to RSVP for the event so the groups know how many will be attending. Anyone who is interested in yoga is free to attend the event, from beginners to advanced skill levels.
